Whoa, I was on the news again.

by: Ross

Yesterday, along with fellow bloggers, I helped release a new website called VacantRichmond. Jon is well connected so he sent out a ton of press releases, and the proverbial phone has been ringing off of its proverbial hook — not really. But CBS 6 did show up at my office yesterday with a video camera.

Last time this happened was when I released RichmondCrime.org. Back then I hadn’t gotten my interview sea-legs, as it were, and said great things like “it’s super awesome” for everyone to read in the RTD the next morning. I didn’t realize that reporters don’t clean that shit up for you before they print it.

But now I know, and you know what they say about knowing.

I watched the quick thirty second interview on the TeeVee last night and thought I sounded pretty intelligible and intelligent. A good combo. I even (correctly) used the word “impetus!” FTW! I think we are going to spread the interviews around but I might be in another one or two before the end of next week. Keep your eyes peeled — literally.

Something amazing happened to me on the way to work

by: Ross

Last night I went to a Major League Baseball game and left my bike at work. It takes me about thirty minutes to walk to work so no big deal.

While I was walking a man dressed in Hokie gear, “Paul from JRTC,” pulled up next to me an offered me a ride down Cary St. He said he saw my Hokie gear and thought he would stop and offer.

A small gesture, but it really meant a lot to me. Thanks Paul.

Things overheard in the Catrow household this weekend

by: Ross

  • After four beers: “My sweaters have teeth!”
  • Followed by: “Wow it would be really terrible if your sweaters had teeth. They would constantly bite your neck an wrists!”
  • “I bet I could crush your head with this baseball bat.”
  • Later, after some contemplation: “Seriously, I think I could hit you with this baseball bat once and kill you.”
  • “I hate this show Man vs. Wild. It should be called Shut Up Asshole

RVA Blog Carnival: V (for vendetta)

by: Ross

As Grandmaster Arbiter of the fifth RVA Blog Carnival I can apparently roll however I’d like. Because I’m a nice guy — or a terrible man with a black and evil heart — I’m going give a little more exposure to those lesser known (to me) blogs. Make sure you check the bottom of this post for a concise rundown of posts by bloggers who already have full frontal good exposure.

First, some announcements. John’s been busy and just launched Richmond’s newest community blog: Hills and Heights serving Westover Hills, Forest Hill, Woodland Heights, Forest View Heights and Stratford Hills. Also, because Richmonder’s (this one included) have a mental break down when they see snow the Second RVABlogger Congress was “postponed.”

I, somehow, missed the class trip to the crater in Petersburg. This bums me out. Apparently that town is hopping with the funky fresh ideas (free public wifi!). Additionally they call their downtown “Olde Towne.” Awesome.

One thing that I didn’t miss in class was the bit about how Richmond invented slavery. But hey, we apologized for that and we have a new “we’re sorry” statue! Check out this great primer on all things reconciliation staute.

LBH, triathlons are hard. What could possibly be worse than training for one on vacation?

Does anyone else realize that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are needlessly turtles? Nothing in the plot has anything to do with them being huge mutant turtles. I never got a good answer about this from Susan when we went to see the new TMNT movie. I will tell you she seriously likes those turtles. It is kind of weird. Don’t say anything to her about it though.

I am too dumb to grok real poetry, but Poetry Is About Feelings is hilarious and just about my speed: “Poems about anything you want in ten minutes or less!” Like: “people who wear 80’s clothes.” Amazing.

Call for submission: the 5th RVA Blog Carnival

by: Ross

I’m hosting the 5th edition of the RVA Blog Carnival — get excited. While the name “RVA Blog Carnival” looks likeRVABlogs” the two are not related, except topically. JUST HAD TO GET THAT OFF MY CHEST.

Anyway, Haduken is looking for this week’s excellent posts. If you know of one, or even wrote one yourself, use this form to submit it to me. You could also email me, if that is your fancy: maxpower [at] haduken [dot] com.

The carnival should go live Monday. Posts are due to me Sunday sometime.
