Congratulations Chris Peace!

by: Ross

The results are in: Chris Peace 50.83% to John Montgomery’s 48.39%! For those of you not in the know, one of my friends Chris Peace ran for the 97th District seat in House of Delegates and, just tonight, won.

First how cool is it that I know and hang out with a delegate? I mean Vanimal is cool and all, and I am sure one day he’ll be a delegate too, but first come first serve. Second, my company, PharrOut designed his website (linked above). It came out really well if I do say so myself.

So hurrah for things!

  1. How can you do this?! He is all for discrimination. What about gays and lesbians that are routinely denied of their legal rights? By supporting the “pro-family for pro-marriage” — he implied that gays and lesbians does not have any rights as a whole. Shame on you.

May Peace burn in Hell if he voted to support the anti-gay marriage amendment.

  2. “May Peace burn in Hell if he voted to support the anti-gay marriage amendment.”

this sentence seems silly to me. i might disagree with you on what God finds pleasing/displeasing?

    — Wolf

  3. “if he voted to support”

maybe you don’t understand that he didn’t have a vote in the past, so could not have “voted” for or against anything?

    — nic

  4. The website needs a large victory sign

    — nic

  5. Yeah we talked about a victory sign, but never got around to it. Such is life.

And Ridor, I’ve actually *met* Chris Peace. Have you? Like we have hung out. I’m pretty sure he won’t burn in Hell. It seems a little presumptuous of you to say something like that without getting to know the guy.

Plus dude, you live in VIRGINIA. It isn’t the most forward thinking of places for a gay dude to live. While I don’t personally agree with the marriage amendment (which amends our bill of rights and actually takes away rights?!?!) I’m 100% positive that it will pass — regrettably. I like what Waldo has to say on the subject. I too think it is a trendy law that won’t stay on the books for long.

  6. GOD WOULDNT SEND HIM TO HELL CUZ THATS WHERE ALL THE GAYZ ARE GOING TO BE AND HE IS PROTECTING US AND CHRISTISANYTY FROM THEM.

    midas

  7. haha. oh midas. i haven’t laughed that hard in a while. miss you bud.

Ross, that website looks terrific. much better than that one I showed you on the board a few months back. well done.

    congrats to mr. peace.

also, rather than throw members of an elected office in Hell, why not save other sinners from the same fate, by getting out the vote. seems to me a close election–convert a few more and you may just win next time. though he is now an incumbent….

so, you could lobby mr peace. though id pardon his soul as part of the negotiation strategy.

  8. Midas, Xians do not judge others FOR God. You presumed you can do it — but I can judge you for who you are. You are typical Xian that I look forward to be eradicated in the next 1,000 years.

MaxPower, I have no desire to meet Chris Peace. He will be active in pursuing this nonsensical amendment that will be eventually overturned by the Supreme Court. Virginia is supposed to be a sign of progress. It is not. Why do you think I’m searching for jobs and place to live away from the state? This state does not deserve my tax money or my money.

  9. vanimal3000, that is what Equality for Virginia attempted to — lobby for years, they just slammed the doors in their faces. Why is this state very intolerable? No wonder we can’t even keep the Richmond Braves here… we can’t even compete against the bigger cities like Charlotte, Atlanta, DC — in fact, they are tolerant … this town is messed up with many people still obsessed with the Civil War.

Rednecks still has not taught that they LOST the war and get over with it!

    R-

    Me is the Ridor

  10. No one here is obsessed with the civil war!

    Also, here you go!

    MaxPower

  11. Then GOOOOOOOO “Me is the Ridor.” Since you’re going to judge Chris Peace before you meet him and assume things about him (and we all know what that does!), judging by your name and recent posts, I’m going to assume that you are someone with very poor grammar skills who does not know how to proofread. OHHHHHHH PWN’D.

    — Valeree Lynn

  12. “You presumed you can do it — but I can judge you for who you are. You are typical Xian that I look forward to be eradicated in the next 1,000 years.”

    amazing.

    — nic

  13. The sad thing, for you “ridor”, is that most of the people who read this site generally agree with your gay-rights/no marriage amendment views, but they also expect you to make better arguments rather than reverting to character attacks.

    — nic

  14. screw gay people.

    — Wolf

  15. i’m just instigating.
    now… fight!

    — Wolf

  16. but seriously, can’t you congratulate someone for victory even if you don’t agree with them?

    — Wolf

  17. for real. The original post was, “congrats to my friend was just elected to office”

    — nic

  18. Midas, Xians do not judge others FOR God. You presumed you can do it — but I can judge you for who you are. You are typical Xian that I look forward to be eradicated in the next 1,000 years.

YEAH WE WILL BE ERIADIACATED IF BY THAT YOU MEEN WE WILL ALL BE RAPTURED UP INTO GODS ARMS WHILE YOU SUFFER THE 100 YEARS OR WHATEVER OF SOLITUDE, I DUNNO I FORGET THAT PART BUT I THINK GNASHING OF TEETH ARE INVOLVED. ANYWAYS, ANYONE WHO DOESNT VOTE REPUBLICAN IS GOING TO HELL.

    midas

  19. What about people that just don’t vote? Where do they go? PURGATORIO!?

    MaxPower

  20. i can’t remember a worse discussion on haduken. ever. not the ballpark, not kanye west, not 50cent. none. it started out so normal and nice and then it went all to hell (hehe) in 1 post. even Valeree Lynn had to get mean. oh well.

    — Wolf

  21. midas, again, you make me laugh until I cry. does that make ME gay??

    dun dun dun.

i realize this comes at an awkward time, with me questioning my sexuality and all, but I believe God in public affairs is what Jefferson tried to separate from the public magisterium. not that i completely agree with it, but it seems an odd logic, to demand a moral free entry to the gates of marital bliss, by asking others to ignore scriptural truths specifically against that entry, and then by not doing so sending them [rhetorically] to the very place they avoid by denying that entry [well perhaps, there are other ways to skin a cat, they say].

marriage is a spiritual construct that has taken on legal status. if all are free to do what they want and partner how they want, then why not push for civil unions? why would you want the spiritual label attached?

is this the same thing? frankly, im a bit out-of-the-loop about the ammendment this series of comment generated. i apologize.

i imagine the amendment to go: man + woman = marriage. no civil unions allowed either where the couple is of the same gender. legally, i think the supreme court is going to take a pass on this one, and allow each state to decide, democratically its collective values on the issue.

if this is the case, which with Alito confirmed, I believe it is, then Mr. Ridor, you are better served explaining your position than condemning those, supposedly, against it.

talk it out, what would mr. jefferson do? and they say we are obsessed about the civil war, im still paying homage to the revolutionary one.

I understand Canada just elected a conservative government for the first time in 13 years. It appears, mr. ridor, you are running out of options. . . .

    we await your response.

    vanimal3000

  22. we could at least start a new thread to discuss gay marriage.

    — Wolf

  23. As a reference here is full text of the amendment in question.

The thing that should jump out at you, I think at least, is the overly broad language. The second part of the amendment prohibits any “union, partnership, or other legal status” that approximates marriage. This is regardless of the genders involved. It just seems too broadly worded to go as an amendment to the state constitution.

Also, I think eventually in a couple decades or so when this all settles down we will have a SCOTUS decision allowing states to define marriage as whatever they want as long as a civil union option — with the same benefits as marriage — exists. My prediction at least.

    MaxPower

  24. Whoa, what a great group of bashers ready to pounce me after I left for few hours!

Let me address step by step:

MaxPower: I was born in Virginia. I expected the best out of this state — you cannot tell me to move out — my roots are entrenched here but thankfully, I go out of state frequently and is now courting to find a place of my own outside of this state. But the point is that if you wanted to improve the tolerance, the anti-gay marriage ban amendment is not the way to go. It fosters such hatred for many and you knew it. Why do you think the Churches are motivated to do this — ? Just look at poeple like Midas. I personally think the state of Virginia would leap by bound without the bondage of Christianity trying to stuff the mythological ideas in our throats.

Valeree Lynn: Your comments proved one thing about yourself — you’re hostile towards people whose language is not English. My first language is American Sign Language. My second language is English — I struggle at it when I try to express my arguments. You chose to ridicule people based on grammatical skills — it goes on to say what kind of person you are, you little pea-brained. There is a place reserved for people like you — they are in West Virginia, for your information.

I do not need to congratulate or support Chris Peace mainly because I already read his comments — he said that he is against the gay marriage and that he will do anything to keep the anti-gay marriage amendment on the constitution.

It will take few generations to clean up the present mess that they left — how nice is that?

Nic: You said that it was amazing that I condemned the Xians to be eradicated later — that is true. How do you expect me to feel compassion for Xians who condemned, tarred and railed our noble activities for years? My patience for these wacky religions are done for. I look forward to the era of intelligence where all religions are just a thing of the past.

Wolf: On a serious case, when I read one’s beliefs and passion to do this, that and there and that contradicts my beliefs — I won’t congratulate him — I mean, it totally threatens who I am. Why should I congratulate someone else who is going to make me a complete 2nd class citizen?

Valeree Lynn: Read the amendment carefully — what Virginia General Assembly is trying to do — not to recognize ANY legal (civil unions, wills, contracts), health (benefits, insurance) and ANYTHING ELSE that comes with the same sex marriage.

So in other words, what I penned a will with my partner in this state, and if I died, my family can swipe the property away from my partner even if I objected to that. Because this amendment permitted that. Don’t you get it?! It is not about one woman - one man like many churches, Republicans and Conservatives f**ks tried to play around. It is not like that.

All we wanted is the legal benefits to PROTECT the gay/lesbian partners should a situation arise upon them.

For your f**king sake, read this: http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2005512310342

Tell me if it is RIGHT thing to do. C’mon and I dare you to tell in my face that it is the right thing to do!

Use your brains for the first time in eons, Virginians!

    Cheers,

    R-

    Me is the Ridor

  25. I didn’t say anything about the amendment in particular, so I don’t know why that second part was addressed to me. As far as me criticizing your grammar, I’m sorry if you took that as me being hostile towards people whose first language is not English. Little did you know that 50% of the children I teach don’t even speak English-I don’t think any of them would say I am hostile towards them. And funny, I thought you would say that a place for “people like me” would be Hell, if we want to continue of the road you’ve paved for us. In any event, me making the asumption that English is your first language is no worse than you make the assumption that Chris Peace is discriminatory based on nothing other than the fact that he is the member of a certain party. And I think that you will find that when you resort to name calling, participants in this forum will take little value in what you say. If you look back on the discussion of various political issues, I think you’ll find that we make a lot of headway without taking ourselves too seriously. If you’re not willing to have a calm, intelligent debate, then I suggest you post somewhere else. I personally don’t find what you have to say very interesting because you’re so hostile. Take it easy already.

    — Valeree Lynn

  26. well said Valeree Lynn.

Me is the Ridor- nobody wants to bash you because of your beliefs- that’s not how any of the regulars here roll. but you start off saying our friend should burn in hell for voting on something a certain way, and you’re certainly going to ruffle some feathers. try calmly explaining your thoughts in rational and thought-out ways and the discussion might go somewhere other than everyone’s assumption that you’re just another radical idiot. i haven’t heard any reasonable argument that i should be upset that Chris Peace won (i think that’s your point?).

also, perhaps it takes a bigger man to congratulate his enemy for his victories, but certainly it can be done. isn’t it a great moment when opposing coaches cross the playing field after a hard-fought game and they shake hands and even though they might hate each other, they show respect. perhaps the stakes aren’t as high, but it’s just an example.

also, i think midas was kidding. note the all-caps.

also, please see the new article if you’re just going to talk about gay stuff. if you truly want to discuss Chris Peace, stick around here.

    — Wolf

  27. me writer,

i was going to believe you and totally support everything you said but then you had to rag on people from West Virginia. There are some great people in the state and the US would be a different place if not for those fine people. Now you’ve lost ALL credibility.

    long live the chris peace!!!111

    — fetzer

  28. HEY MAYBE YOU SHOULD GO READ A HISTORY BOOK, WHEN GEORGE WASHINGTON INVENTED AMERICA AFTER DISCOVERING THE NEW WORLD, THE INDIANS MAYDE HIM PROMISE NEVER TO ALLOW GAY MAIRRAGE UNLESS HE WANTED THEM TO COME BACK AND INVADE VIRGINIA AND WEST VIRGINIA (SINCE THEY WERE THE SAME THING BACK THEN, CALLED ‘DOUBLE VIRGINIA’) AND LO UNTO THEM TO BE BURNED AND THE GNASHING OF TEETH. THIS WAS THE PRICE OF FREEDON, AND THEN BEN FRANKLIN ENTRUSTED TO US TO KEEP THE SABBATH HOLY BY REMEMBERING THIS COVENANT. THESE GOOD MEN TODAY ARE ONLY TRYING TO PROTECT US FROM THE SAVAGES. SERIOUSLY THIS IS 8TH GRADE HISTORY CLASS STUFF.

  31. You totally missed the point, Valeree. It is not about whom the party he stands for. I already read what Chris Peace said his opinion regarding the anti-gay marriage amendment, he is all to outlaw it because it is “symbolic” and right thing to do. Please how can you tell me not to judge Chris Peace based on his beliefs which was printed in Times-Dispatch!

When I nailed you after you made fun of my grammatical skills, you were quick (like many people trying to exonerate themselves) that you worked for a group that does not consider English as first language. So typical hearie.

My point is that … I cannot respect a person who wanted to deem me as second class citizen. That would be like respect Osama Bin Laden or even Hitler.

    R-

    Me is the Ridor

  32. or even Hitler.

    aaaaaaaaaaand we’re godwined!
