Black people love us

by: Valeree Lynn

Many of you were under the impression that MaxPower and I are, in fact, white. Well, according to Doubleday Direct, Inc., the distributors of the “Black Expression Book Club” catalog, we are actually black.

Black Expressions

It’s a good thing that we were let in on this little secret because, not only does it help us fit into our predominantly black neighborhood, but we will now be able to find support for a lot of the issues that, according to “Black Expressions Book Club”, have been weighing on our minds for years. For example, we now know how to have No More Baby’s Mama Drama. “This informational and lighthearted guidebook shows you how to identify different types of ‘baby mamas,’ deal with disrespectful stepchildren, avoid conflict with your husband’s ‘ex,’ and more!” Even better, we FINALLY are privy to Zane’s Sex Chronicles II, which features three sizzling selections: “Wild,” “Wilder,” “Off Da Damn Hook.” According to Michelle, member since 2001, “It’s truly a black thing.” Well, Michelle, I think as we take advantage of our newly discovered blackness, Max and I will be able to echo the sentiments of Mary Monroe, member and author of God Still Don’t Like Ugly:

I’ve been a member for years. Even though I live near lots of chain and independent bookstores, I often have a hard time finding obscure African-American titles. I NEVER have that problem with Black Expressions.

The neighborhood welcomed us to blackness with a precious token that only those of our culture can understand.

Blackie Clause

As you can see, Blackie Clause here is a true ambassador to the African American culture, bearing not only a pleasant expression, but also four puppies for our enjoyment. Thanks, Blackie Clause. And thanks “Black Expressions” for opening up a whole new world to us. We out.

  1. We got that, and an offer to sign up for black AOL, too! Our first xmas in the neighborhood, there was a black santa in the seasonal display. He was removed last year, though, to make way for a way more neutral lights thing. It feels different when you are the diversity, eh?

  7. it’s good to have blackie back around. that guy took a mysterious vacation, but he’s back in a big way.

[ok, ok, blackie's "vacation" was actually spent all alone (except for the mice) in my grandfather's filthy old chicken coop. but don't worry, he got a good hosing down. sorry blackie.]
