Arlington National Cemetery
by nic
My wife and I made our first trip to this American-must-see.
Why go to Arlington National Cemetery?
Well other than the beautiful landscapes…

And sobering rows of graves…

There is an awesome new exhibit that pays tribute to those who have died in Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. I am a little fuzzy on some of the details but from what I recall the Armed Services posted pictures of those who had fallen on the internet, and asked various artists to recreate a likeness on an approximately 6 x 10 form. The results were amazing. Bellow are some pictures to give you an idea of what we saw, but its hard to portray the scope. There are just so many pictures, I only got two of the rows, there were many more. Family members of those who had fallen have placed poems, letters, pictures, flowers, flags and other momentos near some of the pictures.
America here are your brave sons and daughters.

damn federals.
i think everyone in richmond should go to oakwood cemetery. 17,000 confederate dead. buried 3 deep under tiny little makers. it is in a pretty bad satate unfortunately. a lot of the dead came from the battle over at mechanicsville (seven days campaign).
a lot of people died in that war.

Once I was on a date and we were driving back from dt – I took a wrong turn and as we came to the top of the hill we were on, we saw the entire spread of the cemetery below us.
It was past midnight and all the lights were off on the field but all the headstones glowed. It was pretty cool/a little creepy.
We should take a trip there. It would be fun, I love road trips. Actualyl we should ride bikes up there. That would be hard core.
We should go visit my parents and then go there because they live around the corner from it.
so does van! (soon).

I love road trips too.

Did you get to watch the changing of the guard?! That’s one of my favorite things about Arlington. What is really cool is if you go to the Armed Forces Old Soldiers Home…Those are some men and women that have some EXTREMELY interesting stories to tell. (then they’ll take you to the bar they have in the building and buy you drinks just for coming to talk to them.) I’m thinking about going to Arlington when I come home for leave in June. That would be the new hottness. VIVA V.A. !!!!!!!11
Yes we did see the changing of the gaurd, it was pretty cool.
