Church Hill slash Shockoe Photoblog
by Justin
On Saturday, it was ridiculously beautiful out. It was definitely the kind of day when, if you had recently decided to move to a new location, you might decide to take a stroll around that new location so you could get to know it. And if you had a brand new digital camera, you might want to try some outdoor photography on such a day. Since both of these conditions applied to me, I knew exactly what I must do. Outdoor photography in church hill and shockoe bottom. I ended up checking out Chimborazo Park, the Chimborazo Medical Museum, and also the proposed stadium location.
Here I am going towards church hill, my future home.
Further down Broad, here is where I will live.

Chimborazo Park is totally like right there.

So I decided to explore. I found that there was more to the park than meets the eye, much like a transformer.
I found many examples of gaston’s wrath.

These tracks are the exact distance from my apartment to not be annoying but be cool when trains go by and whistle. I don’t know if they still use these tracks though.

On page two I will decide to walk around Church Hill itself a little bit.
Dude good photoblog. I think you got all of the directions right. One thing you are going to have to do this weekend is come with me and Havoc (and maybe midas/iheartdorks if they are in town) and go down to the church hill tunnel. We went this weekend but didn’t have any cameras. There were some pics of it in the pigpickin’ photoblog. Also we found this awesome abandoned warehouse down there with sweet robot art. Field trip this weekend.
Hey, I thought you were going to wait until NEXT weekend since Midas and I won’t be in town – but whatever.
I asked Lisa about the warehouse and she said she can’t figure out what it is but that when she is in Chimborazo park she hears fans and factory noises…?
I’m down for either weekend.
Let me know if you’re interested in excluding midas and maura.
Dude btw, when do you move in?
Beginning of March. Ideally, if everything is ready to go, I’d like to move stuff on the 27th since that’s a Sunday. But I have a feeling it’ll be the 5th and 6th when I do most of the moving.
yeah i won’t be down there this weekend i don’t think. if someone has a canoe, though, i would make a special trip. too bad mattera is in france.

Yeah I don’t know anyone with a canoe. Man do we need one though.
We do? I bet you could ebay a canoe cheap. Or could we make one, just like native americans did in bygone days of yore?
Friends of midas and mine (we have other friends?!?!) used to live under a water sports store which once lent us some canoes; we them used to explore an island in the middle of the Rappahannock where we found an the foundation of an old winery known for it notoriously awful wine.
But they moved to Illinois so I guess we’ll just have to wait until midas builds his boat out of plastic jugs.
if i’m lackin’ in boats, it’s cause i’m fearful of the kraken
they are selling used canoes there and have been for like 6 months, so they are prolly dirt cheap by now. maybe if i buy a house by the lake i will buy one. but that is neither here nor there.
i am getting close to having enough jugs to make my boat. don’t know how well it will handle the tunnel though, i have a feeling the draft will be large.

i don’t have a boat, though i have made a jug boat before (massive failure, but i was like 10), but i do have bolt cutters. if you need them to get thru the fence. i don’t think it was open enough to get a canoe in with the amount of water that was there.
i was thinking it would be awesome to live in there… minus the water. water proof it. put an all glass wall across the opening and somewhere back there and you have a crazy-cool house. i mean, it might be a little harder than i’m making it sound, but still.
dude we are going this weekend. midas can come back to richmond if he wants. but i mean seriously. the weather is going to be nice. it is the best weekend for it.
hey, just happened across this doing some research on something else, really enjoyed it.
